American Painted Tole Coffee Pot, Dated 1892
1/9
$175.00 USD

Late 19th century. Cylindrical sheet-iron coffee pot with original dark japanned ground, hand-painted on the body with a vibrant fruit still life depicting apples and clustered grapes with leafy sprigs, accented by fine red line striping. The lower body is hand-painted “1892” in period paint, likely denoting the year of decoration or household use. Fitted with a turned hardwood side handle and matching wooden finial. Original tin-lined interior and applied copper heat-diffuser bottom, consistent with higher-quality utilitarian wares of the period.

Condition: Original surface throughout with expected age and use; scattered small oxidation pinholes to the lid, consistent with long-term heating and moisture exposure; minor wear to paint and lining, all commensurate with age. No evidence of repainting or restoration.

A well-preserved and honestly worn example of late 19th-century American painted toleware, retaining its original materials, decoration, and a clearly dated surface.
