Exceptional hand-carved and polychrome-painted figure retaining an untouched, heavily weathered surface with bold red cap and tunic, white riding trousers, and black boots with red dotted decoration. The figure’s raised arm was likely intended to hold a lantern, crop, reins, or sign element. Deeply carved facial features, pegged construction, and early surface wear throughout give the piece tremendous presence and authentic rural folk character. Mounted on a custom-made flat wood display base created specifically for the piece. Height 23 in.
