Arcade Pressed-Steel Biplane Toy
1/13
$275.00 USD

American, Arcade Manufacturing Co., Freeport, Illinois, circa 1926–1932

Large-scale pressed-steel biplane retaining its original red enamel surface, constructed in Arcade’s characteristic industrial manner with wire-braced wings, rolled-edge open cockpit, and bent-rod landing gear fitted with original rubber wheels. The detailed engine section features Arcade’s distinctive exposed cylinder simulation formed of upright threaded steel bolts, set behind a pressed metal grille and paired with a cast metal propeller. Additional construction details include riveted and crimped assembly, factory-formed fuselage seams with original steel closure plug, and a flat steel tail skid.

The surface shows honest play wear, oxidation, and localized paint loss consistent with age, with no evidence of restoration, repaint, or replacement parts. An excellent, untouched example of interwar American aviation toy design by Arcade Manufacturing Co., widely regarded as one of the premier producers of early pressed-steel toys. A visually striking and mechanically expressive object reflecting the public fascination with flight during the early decades of powered aviation.
