Hand-Forged Iron | Original Surface
6” Long
A wonderfully primitive and exceptionally sculptural pair of early hand-forged wrought-iron scissors, distinguished by their dramatically elongated open-loop handles and extraordinary folk art appeal.
The exaggerated, gracefully sweeping handles create a whimsical, almost butterfly-like silhouette, while the sharply pointed blades, irregular hand-forged construction, and bold central pivot lend tremendous character to this unusual little piece.
Especially appealing is the richly aged, untouched-looking brown-black iron surface, retaining wonderful traces of historic red paint along the curved handles. The combination of expressive form, beautifully mellowed patina, and surviving original color gives these scissors remarkable visual presence.
A wonderfully folky survivor of early utilitarian ironwork, possessing sculptural appeal far beyond its modest six-inch size.
