Rectangular form with fixed carry handle and lift-off lid, retaining its original black japanned surface highlighted by vibrant hand-stenciled polychrome floral decoration. A particularly fine example distinguished by its exceptionally well-preserved original finish, crisp decoration, and remarkably clean interior. Surviving examples in this state of preservation are increasingly difficult to find, making this an outstanding example of late 19th-century American painted tinware.
