A handsome Pennsylvania bentwood sewing bucket dating from the third quarter of the nineteenth century. Constructed of steam-bent staves secured by overlapping bentwood bands and retaining its original swing handle mounted on turned wooden pegs. The hinged lid opens to reveal the original interior sewing compartment, designed to organize needles, thread, scissors, and other sewing implements while providing larger storage space beneath.

Particularly appealing are the decorative hand-fitted butterfly iron hinges, warm honey-brown surface, and beautifully preserved country patina developed through generations of use. The sculptural handle, crisp bentwood construction, and intact interior fitting combine to create a striking example of Pennsylvania domestic craftsmanship.
