A wonderful and exceptionally scarce American illuminated trade sign fashioned in the unmistakable silhouette of an oversized dog bone, retaining its untouched original cream-painted field with bold red “WOOF” lettering and matching rolled red border. Constructed of heavy-gauge sheet steel with a deep formed body, the sign was originally electrified, its numerous socket openings once illuminating the whimsical design and creating an eye-catching nighttime display. Today it survives as an extraordinary example of mid-century American roadside advertising with outstanding sculptural presence and undeniable folk art appeal.
