Height 9½″; Width 8″
A richly modeled American chalkware fruit compote featuring a vibrant arrangement of apples, pears, and grapes resting within a bark-textured pedestal bowl. The sculptural grouping displays pronounced hand-painted detail, including stylized blossom-end decoration, deep iron-oxide reds, warm ochres, muted greens, and darkened grape clusters.
The surface retains its original polychrome paint with beautifully oxidized matte finish throughout. High-point wear, subtle paint thinning, and natural age darkening contribute to a highly desirable untouched surface. The bark-textured stem and flared pedestal base show honest abrasion and oxidation consistent with early 20th century manufacture.
The fruit forms are robust and slightly irregular, imparting a strong folk character while maintaining a balanced decorative composition. Underside reveals original composition body with appropriate age spotting and no evidence of later repaint.
A charming and authentic example of early American decorative chalkware, retaining excellent color and original surface.
