A beautifully executed miniature in the classic Southern mountain basket tradition, this finely woven split-oak example is constructed with the same discipline and structural integrity as a full-size working gathering basket. The form features a precisely arched triple-splint handle with tightly wrapped apex join, a double-rimmed and carefully lashed border, and alternating wide and narrow hand-split oak weavers forming a crisp, architectural side wall.

The base is tightly plaited and firmly integrated into the lower border, displaying excellent symmetry and tension throughout. The rich, warm oxidation of the oak gives the surface depth and softness, enhancing the dimensional quality of the weaving.

Remarkably preserved in mint condition, with no breaks, loss, or weakness to the handle or rim. The weaving remains tight and structurally sound — a rare survival for a miniature of this scale.
