MONUMENTAL 19TH-CENTURY AMERICAN TWO-MAN LOGGING SAW Great American / Crown-Tooth Pattern
1/9
$200.00 USD

American, circa 1880–1900
66” L × 3¼” blade H | Original handles 8¼” L

An extraordinary survivor of the great American logging era, this monumental 66-inch two-man crosscut saw possesses tremendous sculptural presence and exceptional industrial folk-art appeal.

Its most striking feature is the dramatic Great American crown-tooth cutting pattern, with enormous 1⅛-inch teeth arranged in a bold, rhythmic sequence along the remarkably slender steel blade. The pronounced original factory-formed camber creates an elegant, sweeping silhouette, transforming this functional logging tool into an almost abstract work of folk sculpture.

Both original turned hardwood handles survive with their iron collars and fittings, displaying a wonderfully rich, nearly black patina that contrasts beautifully with the deep chocolate-brown oxidation of the steel.

Remarkably preserved in apparently untouched original condition, retaining its historic surfaces, working wear, original hardware and beautifully aged character.

A superb example of 19th-century American logging history, distinguished by its monumental scale, extraordinary tooth pattern, original surface and powerful folk-art presence.

Provenance: American private collection.
