Exceptional Pennsylvania German paint-decorated toleware coffee pot, found in a Lancaster County, Pennsylvania estate. Dating from the late 19th to early 20th century, this visually striking example retains its richly colored matte red surface with bold freehand yellow tulip and floral decoration accented by black dotted borders and delicate scrolling linework, displaying the strong graphic character associated with traditional Pennsylvania Dutch folk art. The elegant tall-form body is fitted with its original turned wooden handle and matching wooden finial, both retaining an outstanding untouched surface and warm age patina. Constructed of hand-formed tin with rolled seams and early riveted hinge construction, the piece exhibits honest age, minor wear, and scattered paint loss consistent with generations of careful use and storage. A wonderfully sculptural and highly decorative piece of American folk art toleware with exceptional shelf presence and strong Lancaster County aesthetic appeal.
